Warning signs

Pressure to act immediately, requests for payment by gift card, wire or crypto, threats of arrest, or requests for codes sent to your phone are classic scam signs.

Before you call back

Look the number up, but remember that a clean result doesn't mean a call is safe, and a reported number may have been spoofed. Never call back a number left in a suspicious voicemail; use an official number instead.

Reporting

Reports to the FCC and FTC help regulators find patterns and take action, even if they can't respond to each complaint individually.
